Planning 2027? Start with your brand, not your feed

Most 2027 marketing plans start with a content calendar. The best ones start a step earlier, with the brand. Here's a simple four-step planning order for next year.

It’s the end of the year, and the planning has started. Most teams open a spreadsheet and start filling in posts: Ramadan campaign in February, Independence Day in August, 12.12 in December.

That’s the feed. It matters, but it’s the last step, not the first. When the brand underneath isn’t clear, a full content calendar just produces a year of posts that don’t add up to anything.

Here’s the order we recommend.

Step 1: Look back before you look forward

Before planning 2027, spend an hour on 2026:

  • Which posts, campaigns or channels brought real enquiries or sales, not just likes?
  • What did customers say about you, in reviews, chats and testimonials?
  • Where did your brand feel inconsistent or outdated?

Write the answers down. They’re the foundation of everything that follows.

Step 2: Get clear on your brand

Answer these four questions in one sentence each:

  1. Who do we serve best?
  2. What problem do we solve for them?
  3. Why should they choose us over the alternatives?
  4. How do we want them to feel when they deal with us?

If your team gives different answers, that’s your first 2027 priority. Everything else is built on this. If your answers have changed since you launched, your visuals may need to change too; see our 5 signs your brand is ready for a refresh

Step 3: Choose 2–3 brand pillars

Pillars are the themes you’ll talk about all year. They keep content focused and make planning faster. For example, a coffee brand might choose:

  • Origin — the farmers and regions behind the beans
  • Craft — brewing tips and behind the scenes
  • Community — customers, events and local collaborations

Every post, campaign and event in 2027 should fit at least one pillar. If it doesn’t, ask why you’re doing it.

Step 4: Now plan the feed

With a clear brand and pillars, the content calendar almost writes itself:

  1. Mark the key dates for your audience: Ramadan and Lebaran, Independence Day, Harbolnas 12.12, school terms, your industry’s peak season. [FILL: check 2027 dates for Ramadan and Lebaran]
  2. Plan 3–4 big campaigns around your most important dates.
  3. Fill the weeks between with pillar content in a steady rhythm you can actually keep.
  4. Decide the channels where your best customers really are, and drop the ones that didn’t perform in 2026.
  5. Set one or two measurable goals per quarter, such as enquiries, sales or newsletter sign-ups.

A quick 2027 checklist

  • Reviewed 2026 results and customer feedback
  • Answered the four brand questions as a team
  • Updated the brand guide (logo, colours, fonts, tone)
  • Chosen 2–3 content pillars
  • Marked key dates and 3–4 major campaigns
  • Refreshed templates for the new year
  • Checked the website still matches the brand
  • Set quarterly goals and how you’ll measure them

Your website is part of your brand

Many businesses refresh their Instagram but leave a website from 2021. If your site is slow, hard to use on phones, or out of date, 2027 is the year to fix it. Your website is where people decide whether to contact you. See our Website Development services
